The Search and Discovery in Shidalkura Union
Mohammad Swaib, son of Selim Sardar and Shimuli, left his home to play around 7 am on 3 October but failed to return. Family members notified local police after the child remained missing for hours, prompting a joint search operation involving both police and fire service personnel. Rescuers ultimately located the body in a pond situated behind Abu Alam Shikdar’s residence.
Family Accuses Neighbors of Murdering Child
Relatives of the victim accused neighboring residents of killing the child following a dispute. Selim Sardar stated that an argument had broken out between his mother and neighbor Abu Alam over a trivial matter on Friday. Swaib’s family alleged that Abu Alam and his son, Russell Shikdar, murdered the boy and placed his body inside the sack before dumping it in the pond.
Police Detain Suspect as Residents Burn House
Following the recovery of the body, mounting local tension led angry residents to set fire to Abu Alam’s house. No members of the accused family remained at the residence following the incident, preventing reporters from obtaining comments from them. Shamsul Arefin, additional superintendent of police for Shariatpur’s Gosairhat Circle, confirmed that Russell Shikdar had been detained as a suspect.
