Mississippi College Discontinues Football Program: Impact on Gulf South Conference
Mississippi College to End Football Program
On November 18, 2024, Mississippi College announced it will discontinue its football program. The University of West Florida expressed support for the Gulf South Conference (GSC) in maintaining its reputation as one of the top football conferences in NCAA Division II.
Dave Scott, Associate Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics at UWF, said, “The GSC has a long history of football success. UWF is a proud member of the Gulf South Conference and will work to strengthen its football success for the future.”
The GSC released a statement expressing disappointment about Mississippi College’s decision: “We are disheartened by today’s announcement. This creates challenges for the conference and our football-playing members. The Gulf South Conference has a strong football history, and we are committed to preserving that tradition. Our strength will be evident with two of our teams competing in this year’s NCAA Division II Championship.”
