MJ Lenderman Unveils New Music and Warren Zevon Cover on ‘The Adam Friedland Show’
MJ Lenderman has been busy. The indie rock artist debuted a third new song this week, following the premiere of two others in an Athens, GA performance, and a captivating cover of Warren Zevon’s “The French Inhaler” on The Adam Friedland Show. The appearance on the YouTube talk show began with the Zevon cover, and host Adam Friedland promised a second Lenderman performance in a bonus video released today, .
The newly released video features an unreleased ballad, described as “pure, uncut Lenderman,” shaped by his signature style. The song begins around the 3:45 mark and is a minor-key slow jam that draws influence from Jason Molina, though with a more playful tone than Songs: Ohia. Lyrics include the lines, “I still stand the tallboy cans by the trash for you/ What’s a stay-at-home cowboy to do/ But put on yesterday’s clothes/ And set out to roam the living room alone?”
Lenderman’s performance of “The French Inhaler” opened the episode of The Adam Friedland Show. Performing solo with an electric guitar, Lenderman delivered a passionate rendition of the song, singing the lyrics with a noticeable emotional weight. Friedland playfully alluded to a rivalry between Lenderman and Cameron Winter of Geese during the performance, even titling the video “MJ Lenderman CALLS OUT Cameron Winter (not clickbait).”
This latest activity follows a prolific period for Lenderman. In , he released his solo album, Manning Fireworks. He then rejoined Wednesday for their album, Bleeds, though is currently on hiatus from touring with the band. Toward the end of , Lenderman collaborated with Katie Crutchfield, Allison Crutchfield, and producer Brad Cook for the surprise Snocaps project.
Looking ahead, Lenderman is set to co-headline a tour with Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield beginning in April, and will also join Zach Bryan as a supporting act on a string of summer dates. He remains one of the most active musicians working today, consistently delivering new music and performances to his growing fanbase.
Friedland also teased a new series called TAFS Unplugged, featuring additional live performances recorded in the studio. He indicated that some of these performances would be shorter, consisting of performances paired with brief interviews.
