MLB Star Reacts to ESPN Swing-Off List
Brent Rooker Responds to Yankees Manager Aaron Boone’s All-Star Swing-Off Selection
Oakland Athletics slugger Brent rooker has publicly addressed his exclusion from the American League’s swing-off competition during the MLB All-star festivities, clarifying his perspective after Yankees manager Aaron boone explained his player selection process.
Boone Explains Rooker’s Absence from Swing-Off
New York Yankees manager aaron Boone, who was tasked with selecting three players for the American League’s swing-off, explained his decision-making process, which did not include rooker. Boone stated that managers were required to submit their selections the day before the event. His rationale was based on the assumption that key players, like Aaron Judge, might not be available for late-inning action in the All-Star Game itself.
“We had to pick our guys yesterday,” Boone told reporters. “Wanted to make sure I picked guys I knew would be in the game there and still hot. That was my choice.”
This clarification comes after Rooker himself seemingly responded to the situation on social media, though he didn’t directly name Boone or the Yankees. His comments suggested a desire to participate and a belief that he was a viable candidate.
Rooker’s Previous Social Media Engagement
This isn’t the first time Rooker has used social media to engage with discussions surrounding the All-Star break.Earlier, the Athletics’ power hitter responded to a fan who criticized him for feeding his infant daughter a bottle during the Home run Derby.
ESPN cameras captured Rooker tending to his 11-month-old daughter, who was sitting with him near the dugout, during the event. A viewer on X (formerly Twitter) commented, “Hey Rooker… did you really need to feed your baby on camera? Sometimes people just want to see you play.”
Rooker’s reply was direct and unapologetic: ”Yes, it was necessary to feed my 11-month-old child her nighttime bottle at like 9:00 pm.Thank you for asking.” This response highlighted his commitment to his family while also participating in a high-profile event.

Rooker’s willingness to engage on social media, whether addressing fan criticism or clarifying his own situation, showcases a modern athlete’s approach to public interaction. His presence at the All-Star festivities, even without participating in the swing-off, underscores his growing recognition in the league.
