The move to the Coliseum marks the tournament’s expansion to the West Coast, with previous games held in Dallas and Morrisville, N.C. Lauderhill, Fla., will also host games this season. While plans exist for each of the six teams to have home grounds, only the Texas super Kings currently have a permanent venue. Soma Somasegar, co-owner of the Seattle Orcas, said media rights could significantly boost league revenue. “There is an chance for a good amount of revenue to come into the league from media rights,” Somasegar said. “That will open up not only more opportunities to keep attracting top players but also sponsorship.”
Anand Rajaraman, co-owner of the Unicorns, echoed this sentiment, hoping a new broadcast deal would lead to profitability as the league gains popularity. “As the league gains popularity, my hope is that the second broadcast deal is what takes us to profitability,” Rajaraman said.
Johnny Grave has taken over as chief executive, succeeding Vijay Srinivasan. Grave previously served as Cricket West Indies chief and commercial director at the Professional Cricketers’ Association in England.
