Cristiano Ronaldo could depart Al-Nassr during the upcoming January transfer window as he evaluates the final months of his storied career, according to former club spokesman and journalist Saud Al-Sarami. Speaking on an Al-Arabiya Sports podcast appearance, Al-Sarami reported that the 41-year-old Portugal international is playing past his prime even within Saudi football and may seek a new project elsewhere before retiring.

Al-Sarami Claims Winter Transfer Window Exit

According to Saud Al-Sarami, speaking on Al-Arabiya Sports, Al-Nassr might facilitate an early departure if the forward wishes to experience a different environment before hanging up his boots. Ronaldo signed a two-year contract extension in the summer of 2025 after his initial deal with the Knights of Najd expired. With that agreement set to run out at the end of the 2026-27 season, no known talks have taken place regarding a subsequent extension. Earlier in the summer, the Real Madrid legend hinted that his active playing days are nearing a final conclusion, opening the door to alternative pursuits. Since arriving in January 2023, Ronaldo has featured in 155 matches for Al-Nassr, netting 132 goals and capturing a Saudi Pro League title. Reporting from Sportskeeda indicates that a sensational return to his boyhood club, Sporting CP, for a final six-month stint remains a talking point as the winter window approaches.

AFC Champions League Elite Struggles

The transfer speculation follows a difficult outing in the AFC Champions League Elite, where Al-Nassr suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against UAE giants Al-Ain at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, according to Sportskeeda. Playing from the start as team captain, Ronaldo managed a single shot on target and recorded three touches in the opposition box as the reigning Saudi champions were dismantled. Houssine Rahimi opened the scoring for Al-Ain after 25 minutes before adding a second in the 63rd minute. His brother, Soufiane, struck nine minutes later to stretch the lead, and Giorgos Giakoumakis capped the 4-0 rout in the 85th minute. The lopsided loss compounds a frustrating run of form for Al-Nassr, who recently dropped domestic league points against Al-Khaleej.

MLS Fixture Continuity Amid International Breaks

While the spotlight focuses heavily on Saudi Arabia and the future of Al-Nassr’s captain, Major League Soccer continues its schedule uninterrupted through upcoming FIFA international windows.
