The Union Front for the Defence of Labor, led by Mody Guiro, is preparing for a national mobilization, including sit-ins, protests, and a potential strike, due to what they claim is the State’s failure to uphold commitments outlined in the Social Pact.
during a press conference on september 26,2025,Mody Guiro,Secretary general of the CNS and spokesperson for the Union Front, denounced the government’s actions as demonstrating “contempt” for the agreement signed with workers’ organizations, according to the daily newspaper AS.
Unimplemented Activities and Pending Files
Guiro stated that over thirty activities planned for implementation in 2025 remain unfulfilled. Specific concerns include unresolved issues related to decision-making agents, layoffs at the Grand Théâtre, the Autonomous port of Dakar, and Dakar Dem Dikk, as well as the delayed establishment of the management committee for the mining and geological fund.
Investment Code Revision and Job Security Concerns
Unionists have also rejected the revised investment code adopted on September 19, 2025, characterizing it as a “breakdown in social dialog.” Further exacerbating tensions are threats of important layoffs in the construction, agrifood, hotel, and fishing sectors, as reported by AS.
Additional Grievances and Call to Action
Mody Guiro also highlighted the precarious situation of workers in the private press and criticized what he described as “unbearable” tax burdens on households. in response to these accumulating grievances, the Union Front has scheduled a general meeting of staff representatives for october 15, followed by a national day of action and a broader mobilization campaign.
“The time is for action. We call on workers to defend their achievements,” Guiro concluded.
