Moeka Uchijima Advances to Finals in Thailand Open Doubles
Moeka Uchijima and her partner Chong Eudis (Hong Kong) have advanced to the finals of the Thailand Open doubles event, held in Hua Hin, Thailand. The pair defeated K. Zimmerman (Belgium) and L. Sarden (Belgium) in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4.
Uchijima, 23, participated in both the singles and doubles events of the tournament. Although she lost in the first round of the singles event to Andrea Hartono (Netherlands), ranked 180th in the world, she found success in the doubles event with her partner Chung. The pair won two doubles matches to reach the quarterfinals and then advanced to the finals in the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Uchijima and Chung allowed their opponents to break their serve four times but managed to break six times on return serve, securing their spot in the finals in one hour and 34 minutes. This marks Uchijima’s first time reaching the finals of a tour tournament in either singles or doubles.
The victorious Uchijima and Chung will now face the top-seeded pair of A. Danilina (Kazakhstan) and I. Khromacheva in the finals.
