Osaka, Japan – August 1, 2025 – A vibrant exchange of culture and goodwill marked the “Friend-Ship: Japan-Indonesia Cultural dialog” held at the Indonesia Pavilion, Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai. The event, a cornerstone of indonesia-Japan cultural diplomacy under the theme “peace, Human Security & Dignity,” saw prominent figures from both nations converge to celebrate and strengthen thier enduring relationship.
A Symbol of Enduring Friendship
The highlight of the dialogue was the presentation of a wayang-themed souvenir by General (Ret.) Moeldoko, a key figure in indonesia’s engagement with the expo, to Iehiro Tokugawa, a descendant of one of Japan’s most influential historical clans. The exchange, witnessed by Nanto Deputy Mayor Muneto Saito, underscored the deep historical and cultural connections between the two nations.
In a reciprocal gesture of friendship, Deputy Mayor Saito presented the Indonesian delegation with a sale, a small traditional Japanese shrine. This sacred artifact is destined for the shin’y Temple in Indonesia, symbolizing a shared spiritual and cultural journey.Further enriching the exchange, Sakuranesia Foundation founder Tovic rustam gifted a bespoke hand-crafted sash, designed by the acclaimed Indonesian designer Didit Prabowo, exclusively for the occasion.
Cross-cultural Performances Unite Nations
The dialogue was brought to life through captivating cross-cultural performances that resonated with the theme of unity. Japan’s renowned Kiyari Dance Group, comprising 31 dancers, captivated the audience with their traditional artistry. they were joined by the energetic Sukiyaki Steel Orchestra, whose vibrant melodies filled the pavilion. Representing Indonesia, the youth art collective Duta Melati showcased the nation’s burgeoning artistic talent.
A particularly poignant moment was the collaborative performance titled Chain, meaning “harmonious voices.” This powerful piece, featuring artists from both Japan and Indonesia, served as a testament to the arts as a global language, transcending borders and fostering mutual understanding.
“Friend-Ship Experience” Extends to Nanto City
Following the dialogue, General (Ret.) Moeldoko and Mr. Tokugawa’s entourage embarked on the “Friend-Ship Experience” program in Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. This immersive journey offered a deeper dive into the rich cultural tapestry of the region.The itinerary included a mesmerizing traditional Kokiriko dance and sasara instrument performance in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ainokura village. Participants also engaged in a traditional mochi-pounding session at Zentokuji Temple, savored local culinary specialties, and explored the renowned woodcarving workshops of Inami, culminating in a visit to Zuisenji Temple.
These activities are integral to the “Inochi, Chikyuu, Mirai” (“Life, Earth, and Future”) initiative spearheaded by the Sakuranesia Foundation.
