Mohamed El-Etrebi, chairman of the board of directors of Bank Misr and chairman of the Egyptian Bank Federation, has been named CEO and managing director of the National Bank of Egypt, according to informed banking sources.
The sources explained, in a statement to Al-Masdar, that Hisham Okasha, the current president of the National Bank of Egypt, has been selected for the position of CEO and Managing Director of the Bank of Egypt.
Sources indicated that the posts of Chairman of the Board of Directors and Managing Director will be separated, within the framework of the plan to implement governance rules and to promote and ensure sustainable development and financial stability of the banking sector.
He noted that the formation of the new board of directors of the National Bank of Egypt and Bank of Misr is about to be completed and the names will be announced in the next few hours.

The sources also said banker Mohamed Barkat has been named non-executive chairman of the National Bank of Egypt as well as Soha Al-Turki as deputy CEO of the National Bank of Egypt.

He noted that Essam El-Wakil was nominated as the non-executive chairman of the Bank of Egypt and former Minister of Tourism Ahmed Issa was also nominated to take over the post of Executive Vice President of the Bank of Egypt.
Mohammed Al-Etrebi is considered a distinguished banking personality with extensive experience in banking for over 35 years. He started his banking career with Arab African International Bank in 1977, moved to International Credit Bank and then joined in 1983. He spent over 22 years at the International Bank of Egypt (now Qatar National Bank), during which he held several senior banking positions and gained diverse experience in various key areas of banking.
In September 2005, Al-Etrebi joined the Egyptian Arab Land Bank as a member and vice-chairman of the board of directors in 2009, he returned to the Egyptian Arab Land Bank in 2011. As Chairman of the Board of Directors.
He served as the CEO and Managing Director of the Egyptian Gulf Bank from January 2013 to December 2014, then assumed the chairmanship of the Board of Directors of Bank Egypt in January 2015. Hisham Okasha, Bank Misr’s new managing director, graduated from the American University in Cairo with a bachelor’s degree in economics and computer science in 1990 and a master’s degree in public administration in 1992.
Okasha joined Arab Bank Limited for 15 years, rising to the position of Head of Credit Risk Hisham Okasha joined the Central Bank of Egypt in October 2007 as part of the Banking System Reform and Development Program as Assistant Governor.
