Mohan has traveled to India multiple times as a Fulbright Specialist, conducting workshops and lectures on green chemistry principles at various universities. He focuses on bringing his knowledge to rural areas, where access to such opportunities is often limited.
“It is always humbling to see the desire to learn and grow among students there, and the care for the surroundings, especially amongst the younger generation,” Mohan said.
Fulbright grants, which can last 6-12 months, and shorter Fulbright Specialist workshops, typically lasting 20-40 days, provide mohan with invaluable experiences to share with his students back at illinois Wesleyan.
“While I am invited as an expert, with each trip I realize how much more there is to know, and I end up learning as much knowledge as I impart,” he explained.”at IWU, I teach an upper-level green chemistry course. based on these new experiences,I am continuously revising that class.”

BLOOMINGTON, IL – Ram Mohan, a professor of chemistry at Illinois Wesleyan University, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2023 Kemp Award for his dedication to fostering international understanding and peace through the power of chemistry.

Mohan earned his bachelor’s in chemistry from Hansraj College in delhi, India, followed by a master’s in organic chemistry from the University of Delhi, india. He then pursued his doctorate in organic chemistry from the University of Maryland, Baltimore, and completed postdoctoral work at The University of Illinois Urbana Champaign.
