Egyptian actress Monaa Zaki has not had her bank accounts seized by three banks, according to a public denial issued by her mother, addressing viral rumors that circulated across social media platforms regarding a real estate dispute in the Mohandessin district of Giza.
The Real Estate Dispute and Court Rulings
The social media attention stems from an ongoing legal conflict concerning a residential apartment in the Mohandessin area, according to regional entertainment reporting. The dispute began in 2023 when a buyer, identified in court records as Muhieddine Mohamed, discovered that the property he purchased for 5 million Egyptian pounds in January three years prior was tied to a mortgage held by a bank as collateral for a 24-million-pound loan issued to the owning company. After attempts at an amicable settlement failed, the buyer pursued legal action to compel the actress to cover the debt associated with the unit. A Giza court ruled in favor of the buyer in May 2025, ordering the settlement of approximately 3 million and 775 thousand Egyptian pounds—including legal interest calculated from the date the lawsuit was filed—up from an initial claim of roughly 3 million and 630 thousand Egyptian pounds. The Cairo Court of Appeal subsequently upheld the ruling in December 2025.
Enforcement Proceedings and Mother’s Denial
Following the appeal court decision, the buyer’s legal representative initiated execution proceedings, which reportedly included contacting three banks to freeze funds in accounts, deposits, or bonds up to the judgment amount. Legal efforts by the actress’s defense, including a request to stay the execution and an urgent appeal rejected by the Court of Cassation, failed to halt the process.
Despite reports of the bank notifications, the actress’s mother, Tahani Gaafar, rejected the claims of asset seizures in press statements, stating, This talk is completely wrong, there is nothing at all, God forbid for my daughter, God keep her for me,
as reported by regional outlets including ET بالعربي. Meanwhile, Shabaan Saeed, the legal counsel representing the actress, declined to comment on the ongoing judicial matter.
