MONFORTE DE LEMOS, Spain – The 21st annual Monforte Medieval Fair is set to take place Saturday and Sunday, coinciding with Easter week. Mayor José Tomé Roca unveiled the event’s program at the Supply Plaza, accompanied by members of the local government.
This year’s fair boasts an increased number of musical groups, with 14 ensembles scheduled to perform throughout the weekend – seven each day. This represents an increase from the nine groups featured in the previous edition. Additionally, the city council has increased the number of paper torches and lanterns to 140, five more then last year, for attendees to light on Saturday night in San Vicente and at the medieval market stalls. The lanterns will be distributed in the Praza de San Antonio.
Roca noted the fair’s budget for 2025 exceeds €108,000, calling it the highest in the event’s history. He stated that in 2015, when he assumed office, the allocated budget from the local management was €41,127.17. “That’s an increase of almost €67,000 as then, nearly 163% more,” roca said.
Medieval Market Inaugurated
The local government also inaugurated the medieval market, which will operate throughout the weekend in the Supply Plaza. Eleven stalls offer a variety of goods, including costumes, accessories, crafts, decorative items, makeup, and food.
The medieval market is open Saturday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.A parade of medieval costumes and accessories is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 6:30 p.m., weather permitting.
