A Shift in leadership at Rai
Monica Maggioni has relinquished her position as director of the information offer at Rai, Italy’s national public broadcasting company. However, this departure doesn’t mean viewers will no longer see her on screen. Maggioni has secured an agreement to continue hosting her programs, In half an hour on Rai 3 and NewsRoom on Raiplay.
According to reports, Maggioni’s decision stems from a desire to dedicate more time to the writing and direction of her broadcasts.Importantly, this transition is unrelated to concerns about salary caps, as the restrictions on public sector remuneration-including those at Rai-where recently lifted by a ruling from the Constitutional Court.
A Distinguished Career at Viale Mazzini
Maggiioni’s career at Rai began through competitive examination. Over the years, she has held several key leadership positions, including director of Rainews, and notably, became the first woman to lead Tg1 (the primary national news program). She also served as President of Rai from august 5, 2015, to July 27, 2018. As 2023, she has been responsible for the overall editorial management of Rai’s information programming.
While no longer an employee of the company, Maggioni will continue to contribute as an external collaborator, a model similar to that of Bruno Vespa, a prominent Italian journalist and television personality. Reports indicate her new contract will involve a reduced compensation package.
