Monkey on the Loose
Arlene Pinkston,a shopper at the Plano Spirit Halloween,first spotted the primate swinging through the store on October 28,2025.”my daughter looked up and she said, ‘What in the world?’ and she’s like, ‘Is that a real monkey?’ and I looked up and said, ‘Well, it’s got a diaper on so I guess it is real,'” Pinkston told NBC 5 DFW.
According to Jimmy Harris, a Spirit Halloween employee, the monkey became frightened by an animatronic display and escaped from its owner.
The monkey’s antics drew a crowd, with shoppers and children observing the scene for approximately 30 minutes. Plano police were eventually called to the store. “He observed the monkey swinging from the rafters wearing a diaper,” the Plano Police Department stated to NBC 5 DFW.
The owner was able to regain control of the monkey by offering it a cookie. Police confirmed the monkey was unharmed and posed no threat to customers.

This incident occurred shortly after another monkey-related event in Mississippi. On October 28, 2025, UPI reported that three Rhesus monkeys escaped after a truck carrying them from Tulane University was involved in a crash on Interstate 59 near Heidelberg, Mississippi.
