Monster of the Mississippi: 4m-Plus Giant Crocodile Caught in the Heart of America
Giant Alligator Caught in Mississippi, USA
A giant alligator measuring 4.2m in length, 166cm in circumference, and 363kg in weight was caught in the Yazoo River in Mississippi, USA. It is estimated to be over 60 years old.
Six hunters moved to the Yazoo River around noon, braving a storm that lasted for about three hours. As the rain subsided in the afternoon, a huge alligator appeared on the surface of the water.
Megan Sasser, one of the hunters, recalled the scene, saying, “When I saw the alligator, the size of its head and body was unrealistic. I knew that alligators were big, but I didn’t know they were this big.”
The group of hunters sat in the rain for more than three hours trying to catch the alligator. When the alligator showed up, they chased it for an hour. “We went a few miles down the river before we caught it,” said Marty Sasser, Megan’s father. “It felt like throwing a car in the deep ocean and trying to catch it with a fishing rod.”
The alligator officially weighed about 802 pounds (about 363 kg) and was 426 cm long. It falls short of the state record of 4.33 m (14 ft) caught in Mississippi last year. However, it is said that it has a good chance of breaking the state record in terms of girth and weight.
