Monterrey advances to Club World Cup Knockouts After Dominating Win

Monterrey secured their place in the Club World Cup knockout rounds with a resounding 4-0 victory over Urawa Red Diamonds on Wednesday at the Rose Bowl. The win secured second place in Group E, setting up a last-16 clash with Borussia Dortmund.
A flurry of goals in the first half paved the way for Monterrey’s triumph. Nelson Deossa and Jesús Corona scored stunning long-range goals, bracketing a composed finish from German Berterame.
Deossa opened the scoring in the 30th minute with a powerful, swerving shot from 35 yards.Four minutes later, Berterame doubled the lead. Corona then added a third goal in the 38th minute with another impressive strike from distance. Berterame capped off the victory with a fourth goal in stoppage time.
The victory,combined with Inter Milan‘s 2-0 win over River Plate,means Monterrey will face Dortmund in Atlanta on Tuesday.
