Duffle coats originally started as workwear for fishermen in Northern Europe, but were later adopted by the Royal Navy as military uniforms during World War II. The current DUFFLE COAT was first produced as outerwear by IDEAL CLOTHING for the British Navy in 1860, and was used as clothing that could be worn by soldiers regardless of rank during voyages. After that, Ideal Clothing was absorbed by Tibet Company, but in honor of Field Marshal Montgomery, who served as the commander-in-chief of the Normandy landings and made numerous submarines, the company changed its name to “MONTGOMEY” to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its founding, as it was his favorite duffle coat.
