Maryland Man Arrested After Kidnapping, Assault Across County Lines

An 18-year-old man is in custody following a weekend incident involving a kidnapping and assault that spanned two Maryland counties. The suspect,Akakpo,faces charges of kidnapping and second-degree assault after allegedly abducting a woman in Montgomery County and transporting her against her will to Prince George’s County.
The incident began Sunday evening when witnesses in Montgomery county reported seeing a man forcing a woman into a black Infiniti sedan.As the vehicle sped away, the victim managed to throw her purse from the car. Police recovered the purse and identified the victim.
Later that day, authorities in Prince George’s County responded to a call about a suspicious situation involving the same vehicle in Beltsville. A witness reported hearing a woman screaming for help inside the car. According to the witness, the woman briefly locked Akakpo out of the vehicle. Police said Akakpo then used a rock to break a window, regain entry, and drive off again.
Montgomery County officers located the abandoned vehicle, which had a broken window, but the victim and Akakpo were not present. After an extensive search, police located Akakpo and the victim in Burtonsville.
The victim sustained minor injuries from broken glass and being forced into the vehicle. Akakpo was arrested without incident and is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. The inquiry into this kidnapping incident and the second-degree assault is ongoing.
