Montreal Snowstorm: Two Factors Complicate Thursday’s Weather
Published January 14,2026 at 12:24 AM
The low-pressure system crossing Quebec on Wednesday and Thursday keeps the suspense going,especially in the south of the province.
In brief:
-
A young and arduous-to-predict system;
-
System trajectory and timing of passage below 0°: the key factors;
-
Risk of snowfall in Montreal and Quebec city (15+ cm) if the system passes further south.
A system in development
What the landscape will look like on Thursday in southern Quebec depends on a second impulse that is not yet fully formed. It is part of a large low-pressure complex that will have its first manifestation in the province on Wednesday.
This second impulse will form in the wake of the first (that of Wednesday) near the great Lakes. It will head towards southern Quebec from Wednesday night to Thursday and it is this one that could generate the largest accumulations in the Greater Montreal area and the St. Lawrence Valley.
