Monzo Reports Revenue growth Amid IPO Speculation
Updated June 02, 2025
Monzo, the London-based fintech company, has announced annual revenues surpassing £1 billion for the first time, alongside a significant increase in profits.Despite this financial success, the company is tempering expectations regarding an imminent initial public offering (IPO).
The digital challenger bank, which launched in the United Kingdom over a decade ago, reported a pre-tax profit of £60.5 million for the year ending in March. This figure represents nearly a fourfold increase compared to the previous year’s profits. Monzo has attracted over 12 million personal and business customers since its inception.
The company’s latest financial year saw the addition of 2.4 million new customers, contributing to a 48% revenue increase, reaching £1.2 billion. Customer deposits also rose by 48%, totaling £16.6 billion. Monzo secured a $5 billion valuation last year during a fundraising round led by Alphabet’s capitalg investment fund.
While previous reports suggested Monzo was preparing for a potential IPO by the end of the year, Chief Executive officer TS anil stated that it is “too early for us to talk about an IPO.” he emphasized that while Monzo could become a successful public company in the future, the immediate focus remains on scaling the business.
Monzo is currently pursuing expansion opportunities in Europe, starting with Ireland, and continuing to develop its presence in the United States. Although the fintech withdrew its application for a U.S. banking license in 2021, Anil has outlined plans to re-enter the U.S. market through a banking partnership, which would circumvent the need for a direct license application.
We are excited about the US as it is indeed a massive market and it is a market that we feel truly needs a Monzo.
During the financial year, the company’s highest-paid director received almost £12 million, a considerable increase from the £1.7 million received in 2024.Anil declined to disclose the director’s identity.
Monzo also disclosed that an ongoing investigation by the U.K.’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) is “likely to have a financial cost” to the business. The FCA launched its investigation in 2021, focusing on potential breaches of anti-money laundering and financial crime regulations. Anil declined to provide further details during a media briefing.
What’s next
Monzo will continue its focus on strategic expansion, particularly in Europe and the U.S., while navigating the regulatory landscape and preparing for potential future opportunities in the public markets. The company aims to solidify its position as a leading fintech innovator.
