More than 190,000 people watched ‘Moana 2’ on opening day… 1st place, beating ‘Wicked’
Disney‘s ‘Moana 2’ Receives Strong Box Office Response
Disney’s animated film ‘Moana 2’ opened to impressive sales, drawing over 190,000 viewers on its first day. According to the Integrated Movie Theater Ticket Network, the film claimed the top box office spot with 196,000 admissions, which represents 53.6% of ticket sales on the day before its official release.
This opening is comparable to ‘Inside Out 2,’ which previously set a record for the highest-grossing foreign film this year with around 194,000 viewers. Notably, ‘Moana 2’s’ audience numbers doubled those of its predecessor, ‘Moana,’ which attracted 84,000 viewers upon its release.
The sequel, released nearly seven years after the original, tells the story of Moana as she embarks on a perilous journey with the legendary hero Maui after receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors.
Current reviews for ‘Moana 2’ are positive, earning a score of 90% on the Golden Egg Index based on audience ratings. Meanwhile, the Hollywood musical ‘Wicked,’ which had dominated the box office for a week, fell to second place with approximately 62,000 viewers and a total of about 820,000 viewers.
‘Moana 2’ is expected to continue attracting audiences in theaters. As of 8 AM, the advance ticket reservation rate for ‘Moana 2’ stood at 37.2%, with 187,000 pre-orders. In comparison, ‘Wicked’ trailed with a reservation rate of 16.5%, accounting for about 83,000 pre-orders.
This strong performance indicates a bright future for ‘Moana 2’ at the box office, exciting fans of the franchise and new audiences alike.
