Morgan State Falls to Coppin State in Season Finale

Morgan State lost to Coppin State 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 25-9) in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) match on November 15, 2024. The match took place at Hill Field House and marked Senior Night for the Bears. They honored four seniors: Ainara Fernandez, Addison Metts, Trinity Carruthers, and Erin Carpenter.

With this loss, Morgan State’s record stands at 6-22 overall and 2-12 in MEAC play. Coppin State improved to 15-15 overall and 11-3 in the MEAC.

Coppin State showcased strong performance by securing double figures in kills during all three sets. They recorded 16 kills and a hitting percentage of .464 in the first set. Morgan State ended the match with a set-high hitting percentage of .542, while totaling 15 kills.

TaKenya Stafford led Coppin State with 16 kills at a hitting percentage of .600. Kahea Carvalho contributed 20 assists and seven digs, while Azul Pilahg added 17 assists. Coco Figueroa led defensively with 18 digs.

For Morgan State, Daniela Ferreira and Addison Metts each recorded seven kills. Mya Karrick led in assists with 12, while Carruthers added nine. Carpenter and Metts each had five digs.

Morgan State reached 10 and 11 kills in the first two sets but struggled in the third, managing only six kills.

Looking ahead, Morgan State will compete in the MEAC Championship next week in Dover, Delaware. The Bears will be the No. 7 seed, facing Coppin State again, who is the No. 2 seed, in a quarterfinal match on November 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall on Delaware State’s campus.
