Morikawa Switches to Olson ⁤Putter ‍at Travelers championship

Collin Morikawa, the world’s No. 4 golfer, is known ‍for frequently experimenting with his putter.⁣ Despite frequently enough returning to his trusted⁣ taylormade TP Soto, which⁢ he used to⁣ win the 2023 Zozo Championship, Morikawa has ⁢a⁤ new ‍flatstick in play ‍at the Travelers championship.

Morikawa is now using an Olson Tour Matrix 1.0 Round putter. Logan ⁤Olson has become a prominent name ⁣in putter design, recognized for his custom creations. He notably crafted the ‍putter Scottie Scheffler used to secure victory at the 2023 Hero World Challenge.

Olson has since ‍joined ⁣TaylorMade, ⁣and the Olson‍ Tour Matrix ⁣is the ⁣first major product of this acquisition, having debuted at the Charles Schwab Challenge last‍ month. Thorbjørn Olesen is also using a similar Olson Tour Matrix 1.0.

TaylorMade putter‍ representative James Holley said⁤ the Matrix system allows for creating a blade putter with options for ⁢grooved or fly-milled faces ‍and three width choices,along with adjustable alignment aids and weights.

“I⁤ can have a putter built ⁢up his length, his grip on it, ⁣and then I can just change out that back, ⁢give him one and a quarter, so a little ‍bit wider,” Holley said at⁣ the travelers ⁤Championship. “It’s gonna⁤ be a little heavier. If I want ⁤to make⁣ that one the same swing⁢ weight, change the weights out. So ⁤just makes it‍ easy to switch stuff back and forth.”

Morikawa previously tested a custom Olson prototype last ‍year, ⁤which featured a grooved⁣ insert, similar to his Soto. However,⁣ the new putter ⁣Morikawa is using at TPC River Highlands has a fly-milled face.

What’s next

It remains to be seen if Morikawa will stick ⁤with the Olson tour Matrix 1.0 Round putter beyond the Travelers Championship. His ‍performance with the new putter will be closely watched as the tournament progresses.
