Morning Joe Hosts Meet Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago

In a surprising move, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-anchors of Morning Joe, announced their visit to Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. This meeting marked their first in-person encounter with the former president in seven years.

Joe Scarborough explained that they felt it was necessary to restart communication despite their history of disagreements, including being called “Crazy Mike” and “Psycho Joe” by Trump in 2018. The duo has not spoken directly to Trump since March 2020, except for a phone call Scarborough made after Trump faced an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.

During the meeting, Mika noted that Trump was cheerful and eager to find common ground on divisive issues with Democrats. She explained their motivation for meeting Trump, stating that five years of political tension have deeply divided the country. She emphasized the need for dialogue, acknowledging that for many Americans, issues like election denialism and January 6th were overshadowed by other priorities that led them to support Trump in the recent election.

Mika pointed out that this presidency might be significant and questioned whether it could be constructive. Scarborough, a former Republican congressman who left the party over his disagreements with Trump, reiterated their intention not to defend Trump on their show.

Despite their efforts to justify the meeting, outrage erupted on social media. Many viewers criticized the meeting, expressing distrust in mainstream media. Some comments suggested that their announcement resembled a “hostage video.”

Scarborough and Brzezinski reassured their audience that they remained critical of Trump. Scarborough stated, “We are not here to defend or normalize Donald Trump. We are here to report on him and provide insights into these challenging times.”
