Floods in Tata Province, Morocco: 8 Killed and 15 Missing
Heavy rainfall and torrential downpours have caused widespread flooding in Tata province, southeastern Morocco, resulting in the loss of eight lives and leaving 15 people missing.
The head of the Tamanert community in Tata confirmed the initial toll, stating that eight bodies have been recovered, while 15 people remain unaccounted for.
The floods, which began on Saturday evening, have collapsed houses and injured numerous people, leaving residents in a state of panic.
Local residents described the situation as ”very worrying” and expressed concerns about the potential consequences of the disaster.
Mustafa Mara, Tata Regional Director of Equipment, reported that several roads have been closed due to flooding and that efforts are underway to restore damaged roads to service.
The Meteorological Department has issued a warning bulletin with an “orange” warning level, indicating a possibility of strong localized thundershowers from 15:00 pm to 22:00 pm local time on Sunday.
The affected areas include the provinces of Tingir, Zagora, Al Hauz, Azilal, Erachidia, Midelt, Tata, and Ouarzazate, with expected rainfall of 20 to 35 mm in each prefecture.
