Vehicle Explosion Causes Damage, No Injuries Reported
A Toyota Land Cruiser Prado exploded in teh courtyard of a residential building on Raduzhnaya Street in Moscow at approximately 9:40 a.m. local time on December 1, 2024. Witnesses reported a powerful initial blast followed by subsequent explosions as the vehicle became fully engulfed in flames. The shockwave from the explosion shattered windows on the third and fourth floors of a neighboring apartment building, scattering glass onto balconies and into apartments.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Firefighters from the Moscow Ministry of Emergency Situations extinguished the blaze within minutes of arrival. Authorities confirmed the vehicle was unoccupied at the time of the explosion and, thankfully, no injuries were reported. The Moscow Investigative Committee is currently examining the wreckage to determine the cause of the incident.
Preliminary investigations have not yet steadfast whether the explosion was the result of a technical malfunction, arson, or the use of an improvised explosive device. The area surrounding the building has been cordoned off to facilitate the investigation.
