Evolution of the Drivers’ Association
Established in 2023, the association was originally formed with a membership consisting of Chaz Mostert, Cameron Waters, Shane van Gisbergen, and Will Davison. None of those original members currently serve in the association.
The group has undergone several transitions since its inception. Andre Heimgartner initially joined as a replacement for Shane van Gisbergen after the latter departed Supercars to pursue a career in NASCAR. Will Davison subsequently left the association following the conclusion of his full-time driving career.
The latest adjustments saw Mostert and Waters step back from their roles. Reporting from Supercars.com indicates that Waters’ departure follows his transition into fatherhood.
Purpose and Regulatory Focus
The Supercars drivers’ association is designed to function as a communication bridge between the drivers, Supercars officials, and race officials. Its primary focus is on regulations rather than commercial issues, such as employment terms or collective bargaining.

The association was created as a response to challenges encountered during the 2022 Gold Coast 500, specifically regarding tyre bundle concerns and track limit issues.
Recent Consultations and Meeting Agenda
The new association members participated in a meeting on April 9, 2026, held on the eve of the ITM Taupō Super 440. The session served as an open forum to discuss technical and safety matters.
Key topics of discussion during the April 9 meeting included the chicanes at the Gold Coast and the new Ruapuna circuit located in Christchurch.
Motorsport Australia driving standards advisor Craig Baird noted that the current trio of Heimgartner, Randle, and Murray provides a diverse range of perspectives for the group.
There’s a good spread there — a guy that has been there a while in Andre, a very articulate guy like Thomas, and a young bloke to show them there’s a bit more that goes on behind the scenes.
Craig Baird
Baird described the meeting as a think tank
and emphasized the importance of including drivers in the decision-making process. He stated that This proves preferable to collaborate on ideas moving forward rather than simply presenting drivers with new regulations on paper.
Despite the role of the drivers’ association in discussing regulations, all drivers are still required to attend the official Competitor’s Briefing, which is typically scheduled after Friday practice at each event.
