Izzet Can Berber, the motorcyclist involved in a north Dublin checkpoint collision last month, has died from his injuries. The incident also resulted in the death of Garda Kevin Flatley.
Berber,who was in his 30s,had been in critical condition at Beaumont Hospital as the May 11 crash. Garda Headquarters confirmed his death Saturday night. Garda family liaison officers are providing support to both families.
The death of the motorcyclist changes the course of the investigation. With both individuals deceased, a criminal inquiry will not proceed. the Garda investigation will now focus on preparing a file for the coroner’s inquest, which will examine the cause of death for both men.

Garda Flatley was pronounced dead at the scene on the R132 at Lissenhall near Swords. At the time of the crash, Flatley was conducting roadside speed checks and attempting to stop Berber, who was on his motorcycle. The motorcycle struck Flatley at speed.
Flatley, a member of the Roads Policing Unit based in Dublin Castle, spent his career policing in Dublin. He was a married father of two, residing with his wife and young daughters in Balbriggan.
