Motorists in Cavan facing hundreds of euro in fines as gardaí seize cars in road safety crackdown
Three Cavan motorists are facing having to fork out hundreds of euro after their cars were seized as part of an ongoing road safety crackdown.
Both drivers were stopped by officers from Cavan’s Roads Policing Unit in respect of suspected drug driving and no insurance incidents respectively.
The first incident took place on Wednesday morning when gardaí pulled in a vehicle following an alert which had flashed up on a gardaí mobility device.
“A roadside test of the driver showed (a) positive (result) for cannabis,” said a garda spokesperson.
This black coloured Audi was one of three cars gardaí in Cavan seized during an ongoing offensive aimed at improving road safety.
“The driver was arrested and processed at Cavan Garda Station where a blood sample was taken.”
Later that same afternoon, a second motorist was stopped on suspicion of being behind the wheel without insurance.
A third motorist was, meanwhile, caught in the Cavan town area with no tax, NCT or insurance while also being a learner driver who was unaccompanied at the time of driving.
In all three episodes, gardaí seized the vehicles in question ahead of court summonses which are now expected to follow.
