Netflix will release a three-part limited documentary series titled “Mourinho” on August 11, 2026, according to an announcement made on July 13. The biographical series charts the career of Portuguese football manager José Mourinho, detailing his rise from a physical education teacher to a manager of elite global clubs.

The production, which took two years to complete, is a Netflix original available exclusively to subscribers. A teaser trailer released July 13 on Netflix’s official YouTube channel shows Mourinho displaying a collection of awards, boots belonging to Diego Maradona, and a first-season professional shirt worn by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Series Scope and Production Details

Netflix describes the project as a portrait of football. The official synopsis states that the documentary is an insider-fuelled look at Mourinho’s rise as one of the world’s top managers. The narrative focuses on the two decades following his 2004 UEFA Champions League title with FC Porto.

The series covers trophy-laden seasons, touchline theatrics, dramatic departures from clubs, and his professional rivalry with Pep Guardiola. In the teaser, Mourinho refers to his winning streak between 2003 and 2022, stating, "I started winning in 2003, and my last title was in 2022. So it was 20 years of winning."

Ventureland produced the series, the same studio responsible for “Beckham” and “The Rescue.” Joe Pearlman directs the project, while John Battsek and Miles Coleman serve as co-producers.

Born on January 26, 1963, in Setúbal, Portugal, Mourinho is the son of goalkeeper José Manuel Mourinho Félix and teacher Maria Júlia Carrajola dos Santos. He is currently the head coach of the La Liga club Real Madrid.
