IFMA and Muay Thai Amateur Sports Association Announce Progress
The International Federation of Muay Thai Associations (IFMA) and the Muay Thai Amateur Sports Association, led by Dr. Sakchai Tapsuwan, IFMA President, and IFMA General Secretary Stefan Fox, held a press conference to discuss the next steps in the sport of Muay Thai. The goal is to push for Muay Thai’s inclusion in the Olympic Games.
Dr. Sakchai stated that the process of moving Muay Thai to compete in the Olympic Games has progressed significantly. Currently, Muay Thai is included in the 3rd category of sports. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is considering Muay Thai, and IFMA believes that there will be good news for the Thai people to celebrate soon.
IFMA is working towards hosting Muay Thai competitions across all continents, including the African Games, Pan American Games, World Games, and World Combat Games. These events are crucial for the IOC’s consideration.
“Most importantly, IFMA will soon have the opportunity to meet with the government of Thailand, under the leadership of Mr. Paetongtan Shinawatra, Prime Minister, to discuss plans for bringing Muay Thai to high-level sporting competitions,” said the IFMA president. “As a legitimate organization and the only Muay Thai organization certified by the International Olympic Committee, we are also seeking support from the government sector. We expect good news soon.”
