Bersatu’s Sabah Strategy

Bersatu, a Malaysian political⁤ party, is actively preparing for the upcoming Sabah state election, with party president‌ Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin expressing confidence in growing public support. Muhyiddin stated that groundwork for the⁣ election began ‍months ‌prior to December 8, 2023. He and other party leaders,⁢ including Datuk Hamzah Zainuddin, have been meeting with communities throughout Sabah to gauge sentiment.

According to Muhyiddin, these ‌meetings indicate a desire for change and rejection of the current state government led by Datuk Seri‌ Hajiji Noor, the Chairman of Sabah’s state chapter ⁤of Bersatu. ⁤ Muhyiddin voiced ‌hope for a new government to emerge following the election.

No Cooperation with GRS

Muhyiddin firmly ruled out any potential ⁣cooperation with the Gabungan rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition. He ‍cited a past betrayal by GRS,specifically Hajiji‍ Noor’s decision to⁣ distance himself from Bersatu after being nominated as Chief Minister following a previous election victory. ⁣muhyiddin ‍characterized GRS ‍as “traitors” and stated there was⁤ no ⁢justification for renewed collaboration.

Chief ⁣Minister Candidate Remains Undecided

When questioned about a potential Bersatu candidate for Chief Minister, Muhyiddin indicated that⁤ a decision⁣ would be made at a later stage.‍ Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee, a Bersatu vice-president, has been speculated as a possible contender. Muhyiddin emphasized the need ⁢for careful strategic planning, including exploring potential ‌alliances with parties aligned with Bersatu,⁢ before making⁢ any announcements.

He explained that premature declarations ⁢could be detrimental to ‍the party’s prospects and that a more opportune moment would be chosen for such a significant declaration.

Party⁤ Unity as a Priority

While focusing‌ on Sabah, Muhyiddin repeatedly stressed the importance of ⁢unity within Bersatu as the foundation for its strength. He highlighted that preparations for the⁣ state elections are also underway in other states, but⁢ emphasized‍ that a cohesive party is crucial for success across the board.
