Ben Larg,a 20-year-old surfer from Scotland’s Inner Hebrides,is making waves in the world of big wave surfing. Larg’s surfing role sees him frequently traveling between Ireland and Portugal, spending winters training and surfing the massive waves of Nazaré.
Larg’s journey began early; he was a Scottish national champion by age 12. At 14, he surfed Mullaghmore, and by 16, he was tackling Nazaré. Now, he regularly heads north to face the challenging Irish slabs when the conditions are right.
Larg gained prominence after filling in for Garrett McNamara at the 2025 Nazaré big Wave Challenge. In his debut big-wave event, Larg secured third place individually and third in the team division alongside fellow UK surfer Andrew Cotton. This performance significantly boosted his profile.
However, Larg is equally passionate about surfing the cold, dark waves of Mullaghmore. A clip shows him skillfully navigating a large Irish wave during a frigid winter day, demonstrating his experience and talent.
