Virginia Binder, Early Computer Consultant and Former Actress, Dies
Virginia Binder, a former actress who transitioned too a career in computer science and worked as a consultant for USC and First Interstate Bank, has died. She was 94.
Binder’s early career included a role in the 1938 film “Nothing Sacred,” starring Carole Lombard and Frederic March. IMDb lists “Nothing Sacred” as a screwball comedy directed by William A. Wellman.
Despite a potential contract offer from Paramount Pictures as a teenager, she chose to pursue higher education. Binder attended Occidental College, graduating in 1951. She continued her studies, earning a master’s degree from Cal State los Angeles in 1953, with concentrations in music and education.
Later in life, Binder embraced the emerging field of computer science, also studying theology.She then worked as a computer consultant for both the University of Southern California (USC) and First Interstate Bank.
She is survived by her son, George Christy, her daughter, Phillips, and her six grandchildren.
