Overview
Grammy award-winning singer Muni Long is facing a lawsuit filed by her former managers, Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon, through their company Ebony Son entertainment, Inc. The suit alleges breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and fraudulent business practices, claiming Long owes them over $600,000 in unpaid commissions.
The Plaintiffs: Industry Veterans
Chaka Zulu and Jeff Dixon are well-established figures in the music industry.Thay co-founded disturbing tha Peace in 1998,a record label instrumental in launching the career of Ludacris. Zulu also played a key role in establishing Hot 107.9, Atlanta’s first 24-hour hip-hop radio station according to Rolling Stone.
The allegations: A Broken agreement
According to the lawsuit, a verbal management agreement was reached between Long and Ebony Son Entertainment at the 2023 Essence Festival. The agreement stipulated that Ebony Son would receive 20% of Long’s gross revenue, alongside reimbursement for expenses – an industry-standard commission rate.
Following a year of commission payments and the release of Long’s 2024 album, Revenge, the lawsuit claims Long’s companies – Super Giant Records LLC, Muni Long Inc., Muni World Inc., and White Rose Garden LLC – ceased commission payments in October 2024 and formally terminated the agreement in January 2025.
The complaint states, “Muni Long shamelessly reneged on her promises to pay Plaintiff the agreed-upon, customary percentage of revenue she earned, and only earned as Plaintiff assisted in obtaining those engagements. This stunning display of ungratefulness and lack of integrity compels Plaintiff’s pursuit of the claims in the Complaint to obtain that wich rightfully belongs to Plaintiff.”
Financial Claims: Over $600,000 at Stake
Ebony Son Entertainment alleges that Muni Long generated over $5 million in revenue during their representation, including income from performances at the Aretha Franklin Theater, SiriusXM Atlanta, and the So So Def show. The company also cites publishing and songwriting deals with artists Shenseea and Tiwa Savage as contributing to the revenue.
