Munster ​Rugby Appoints Codling, Mayo to Key Coaching Role

Munster Rugby ‍has announced⁤ key additions to its⁣ coaching staff. Alex​ Codling,who ⁤served in an interim role,will take on the⁣ forwards coach role permanently. Brad ⁣Mayo, formerly with the‌ Hurricanes, joins as head of ‍athletic performance. These appointments aim to strengthen the team’s performance in the⁣ upcoming season.

Codling’s permanent​ assignment begins Oct.1, following his commitment to the Ireland‍ women’s⁤ team as their ⁣forwards coach‌ at the ⁤Women’s Rugby World ⁤cup⁢ in england. His prior⁢ experience includes ⁣head coach at Newcastle Falcons, and coaching stints with the England⁢ men’s team, Harlequins, and Oyonnax. His diverse background is‌ expected to bring‍ a ⁤fresh outlook to Munster’s forward play and overall team role.

Mayo, ‍bringing ‍experience from Super Rugby and other elite ⁣environments, will start ⁢this summer. His resume includes work with the Brumbies,‌ Bay of Plenty, the Chiefs, and Glasgow ⁤Warriors. ⁤His expertise is anticipated to significantly enhance Munster’s athletic performance program.

Munster ‌general manager Ian Costello ⁤expressed enthusiasm ​about the ‍new appointments. ⁣”Alex’s impact since he began working with ⁤us in November​ has been excellent, and we‍ are delighted that he will be back with‍ us for the 2025/26 season,” Costello said. ⁣He added, “We also look forward to welcoming Brad ⁢to Munster this summer. ⁣Brad has worked in elite environments all​ over the world, and I’m sure he will be a‌ huge addition⁣ to​ the high-performance team.”
