Hokkaido Musashi Women’s University and Junior College holds public lectures with the aim of giving back and contributing to the local community through the results of our education and research, and hoping to create a place of lifelong learning for local residents as well as our students and graduates.

Aiming for better communication
– Observation of English standard expressions and conversation methods

The ability to use different expressions depending on the situation and context is called “pragmatic ability,” and this ability plays an important role in both written and spoken language. Using a web application, you can observe examples of language usage, learn language functions, and think about the “appropriateness” of language while having fun.

Graduated from the Master’s program in English and American Culture at the Graduate School of Letters, Hokkai-Gakuen University. Her main research theme is the development and measurement of pragmatic ability in foreign language learners. She has been in her current position since 2020.

In recent years, the United States has experienced the greatest social division since the Civil War. The conflict between multiculturalism and populism has deepened, and cracks have become apparent in various areas, including education. Where is American democracy headed? We will reconsider this question, taking into account its historical background.

In 2010, she completed her doctoral studies at the Graduate School of Economics at Hokkaido University. She specializes in American economic history and business history. In 2012, she became a full-time lecturer at Hokkaido Musashi Women’s Junior College, and in 2015, she became an associate professor there. She will assume her current position in 2024.

Learning from the field of multicultural education
~School initiatives to respect mother tongues and diversity~

Citing theories of multiculturalism from Canada and the UK, this course will clarify the position of the mother tongue in schools involved in multicultural education in Japan and the US. It will also introduce a Brazilian school in Gunma Prefecture, a Chinese school in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japanese language education in public schools in San Francisco, and an Italian international school, and consider multicultural coexistence from the perspective of an education system that embraces multiple cultures.

In 2019, she completed her doctoral studies at the Hitotsubashi University Graduate School of Sociology. She specializes in comparative education and theoretical research (multiculturalism). In 2021, she became a full-time lecturer at Hokkaido Musashi Women’s Junior College, and will assume her current position in 2024.
