Honoring a Legacy of Service and Sacrifice
The President expressed profound gratitude to the retiring generals and all those who contributed to Uganda’s liberation struggle, acknowledging the sacrifices made to secure the nation’s stability and progress. “We shall all die but die after having done what? When I come here and I see you people, I praise God that you and all of us; the population which supported us, took the right side of history that is why Uganda is now where it is,” he stated, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the UPDF and the Ugandan people.
Museveni highlighted the remarkable transformation of the UPDF from its humble beginnings to a modern, professional fighting force, attributing its success to divine blessing. “You can see that this work is really blessed by God. Thus when we are here, the first thing we should do is to thank God for blessing us in all those efforts,” he remarked. He underscored the importance of recognizing and appreciating the dedication and commitment of those who have served the country.
Improved Retirement Benefits Reflect Economic Growth
A key focus of the President’s address was the government’s commitment to ensuring a dignified retirement for UPDF veterans. He announced that improved economic conditions have enabled the provision of enhanced retirement packages. “I don’t want my generals to retire in poverty. We said since the economy has improved, now it’s time to do something about the salaries and retirement benefits of the soldiers. Now this the good money we are talking about,” museveni explained. He advised the retirees to invest thier benefits wisely, steering clear of high-risk ventures. This commitment demonstrates a tangible recognition of the service and sacrifice made by these officers.

The Minister of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth, joined in commending the retiring generals for their diligent service to the nation, acknowledging the role of faith throughout their careers. “We thank God for you. We also thank God for your families,” he said.
Lt. Gen.Samuel Okiding, the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (D/CDF), expressed gratitude to President Museveni for his visionary leadership and its positive impact on Uganda’s growth. He also praised the Ministry of Defence for its consistent support of the UPDF and lauded the current Chief of Defence Forces, Gen.Muhoozi kainerugaba, for his strategic leadership in modernizing the army. Lt. Gen.
