Music Canada’s Gold & Platinum Program celebrates 50th Anniversary

Toronto—music Canada is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its Gold & Platinum program in 2025. For five decades,the program has recognized significant sales and streaming achievements for artists in Canada,with its gold and Platinum plaques symbolizing commercial success in the music industry.
Since 1975, the Gold & Platinum program has tracked popular music trends in Canada, creating a ancient record of the music Canadians have enjoyed.
Patrick Rogers, CEO of Music Canada, said the program reflects the impact of songs across generations and how technology shapes music consumption. He added that a Gold or Platinum certification remains the benchmark for success, mirroring Canadian listening habits.
In its inaugural year, the program issued 27 album and seven physical single certifications. The first certifications, awarded Aug. 1, 1975, included:
