Elon Musk Thanks Trump for government Efficiency Role as tenure Ends
Updated May 29, 2025
elon Musk has concluded his time as a special government employee, expressing gratitude to former president Donald Trump for the opportunity to lead the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Musk’s focus now shifts back to his business ventures, including Tesla, X/xAI, and SpaceX.
In a post on X, Musk thanked trump for the chance to reduce wasteful spending. He stated that the DOGE mission, aimed at dramatically slashing the federal budget and workforce, would continue to strengthen within the government.
During his tenure, Musk was limited to 130 days of service. Initially, he was closely involved with the Trump administration. Though, as Trump’s tax cut package took precedence over the DOGE’s mission to promote government efficiency, Musk redirected his attention to his business empire.
Musk indicated his renewed focus on his companies, stating he would be “spending 24/7 at work and sleeping in conference/server/factory rooms.” He emphasized the importance of concentrating on X/xAI and Tesla,as well as the upcoming starship launch by SpaceX.
Tesla shares saw a rise following Musk’s announcement. However, Musk also voiced his frustration with Trump’s spending bill, which he believes undermines the work of the DOGE team and increases the budget deficit. This criticism came in a preview of a CBS interview.
“I was, like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit … and it undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said.
Trump responded to Musk’s criticism by defending the bill, acknowledging that it included aspects he disliked but were necessary for its passage through Congress. he emphasized the positive aspects of the bill, calling it “big, lovely.”
What’s next
Musk is expected to remain heavily involved in his various companies, focusing on technological advancements and launches. His future political involvement remains uncertain, but his focus for now is on Tesla, X/xAI, and SpaceX.
