Trump’s Government Efficiency Plans Take Shape with Key Meeting
President Donald Trump’s renewed push for government efficiency is set to advance as leaders from his department of Government efficiency, or DOGE, prepare to meet with key members of Congress. The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, includes Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., the new chairwoman of the House Oversight delivering on Government Efficiency subcommittee.
Greene indicated that the swift institution of the DOGE team signals Trump’s dedication to streamlining government operations. She believes that this time, with stronger support, there’s a significant prospect to drive meaningful change in government efficiency.
Like Elon Musk and vivek Ramaswamy, who are part of Trump’s DOGE team, Greene has been vocal about reducing federal regulations, wasteful spending, and the overall size of the federal government. Coordinating efforts will be a primary focus during the initial meeting and the first 100 days of the management.
Greene said that while the DOGE team will operate independently, she intends to collaborate closely, leveraging her subcommittee’s subpoena power, which the commission lacks. Potential targets for her subcommittee include the border crisis, taxpayer funding for national Public Radio, transgender surgeries for children, and even spending related to Ukraine.
“I can do money that’s gone to transing children,” Greene said. “We can go after NGOs that have enabled the invasion into America with American taxpayer dollars. I might even play around with Ukraine if I wont to. We’ll see. We’ll see where this little road goes.NPR, you know, all kinds of stuff.”
Greene emphasized that she faces no restrictions in her role. “I’ve been told that nothing is off the table, which I’m very excited about,” she said.
Greene’s chairmanship marks a significant point in her career, especially considering past attempts to limit her influence. Now, she is positioned to lead oversight of areas previously off-limits to her.
“I think it’s pretty cool,” Greene said. “I think God always has a plan. And even when it looks like all hope is lost, God always has a different idea. So, I’m excited.”
What’s next
The upcoming meeting will set the stage for the DOGE team and the subcommittee to identify key areas for government efficiency reform and develop strategies for implementation in the coming months.
