Elon Musk Calls Trump’s Tax⁢ Bill ‘Political Suicide‘

‍ Updated June 29, 2025
⁣

Elon⁣ Musk, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO, sharply⁣ criticized President Trump’s‍ proposed tax and spending cuts bill on saturday. Musk, a former member of the administration, stated the bill would devastate American jobs and harm future industries.

In a post ‍on X,⁢ Musk⁣ said the Senate draft would “destroy millions of jobs in America and cause immense ⁢strategic harm ⁣to our country.”⁤ He added that it favors outdated industries while damaging emerging ones. ⁣Musk also called the bill “political suicide for the ⁤Republican Party.”

This criticism reopens‍ a recent conflict between Musk and ⁤the Trump administration. Republican senators are⁣ working to pass the bill by Trump’s July Fourth ⁤deadline.

Musk previously voiced his concerns about the bill in⁢ late May,shortly before leaving his government ⁤position. He told CBS⁢ News he was “disappointed” with the bill’s cost, saying it “increases the budget deficit” and “undermines the work” of his former team.

Musk donated $277 million to ⁣Trump’s presidential campaign and other Republican candidates in the last election cycle. Following an⁣ Oval Office celebration, Musk’s language became more aggressive, blasting ⁢the bill ⁢as a “disgusting abomination.”

President ⁤Trump responded to‍ Musk’s⁣ criticism, and a back-and-forth ensued. Trump also threatened to cut off ‍federal⁣ subsidies⁤ to ⁤Musk’s companies, including SpaceX, wich receives billions in NASA grants.

Musk later expressed regret for some of his posts, and Trump said he didn’t ‍blame musk. The White House has not commented on Musk’s latest ⁤remarks.

What’s next

It remains to be seen how musk’s recent criticism will affect his relationship with President Trump ⁣and‍ the fate of the tax bill in the Senate. Musk has⁣ been focusing on his business ventures since leaving the administration,⁣ and his political influence has diminished.
