Mustard Credits fredo Santana’s Death With Inspiring His Health Transformation
Producer Mustard says the loss of his friend, rapper Fredo Santana, served as a wake-up call that prompted a major overhaul of his lifestyle. The hitmaker detailed his journey to better health, which included quitting lean, drastically changing his diet, and taking up tennis, in a recent interview with The Breakfast Club.
Mustard explained that witnessing Fredo Santana’s struggles with substance abuse and ultimately his death in January 2023 motivated him to prioritize his own well-being. “Seeing Fredo… that realy messed me up,” he said. “That made me really take my health serious.”

He detailed his previous reliance on lean, a codeine-based cough syrup often mixed with Sprite, and how he realized it was negatively impacting his health. Mustard committed to quitting lean and adopting a healthier diet, focusing on whole foods and eliminating processed items.
Beyond diet, Mustard discovered a passion for tennis. He says the sport has become a crucial part of his fitness routine and provides a healthy outlet for stress. “I started playing tennis, and I really, really love it,” he shared.”It’s a good workout, and it’s something I can do to just chill.”
Mustard’s transformation highlights the importance of recognizing the impact of lifestyle choices and seeking positive change. He continues to produce music for some of the biggest names in hip-hop, including Drake, Migos, and Travis Scott, and now does so with a renewed focus on his health and longevity.
