My Morning Jacket is expanding its North American tour this summer and fall, adding five shows to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their album “Z.” The band will perform the album in its entirety at these special concerts, tacked onto previously announced dates.

Frontman Jim James noted the importance of the anniversary. “oct. 4 is the 20th anniversary of our album ‘Z’. It’s pretty wild to think about that,” James said. “to celebrate two decades of it being out in the ether, we’re excited to be turning five of our shows into special ‘Z’ anniversary shows, where we’ll play that album (and some other songs, don’t worry) front to back.”
The louisville, Ky., band’s fourth album, “Z,” was a pivotal release. It marked the first studio appearances of guitarist Carl Broemel and keyboardist Bo Koster, who had joined the group as touring members the year before. The album represented a shift from their earlier Southern rock and folk sound, embracing experimental psychedelia and earning comparisons to Radiohead’s “OK Computer.”
Tracks such as “Wordless Chorus,” “Gideon,” “Anytime,” and “Lay Low” propelled “Z” to new heights, reaching No. 67 on the Billboard 200 and expanding My Morning Jacket’s fanbase.
