Myanmar Flood Crisis: Death Toll Rises to 226, Over 630,000 Affected
Myanmar is still in crisis! – September 17 AFP The number of deaths from the great flood has doubled from the previous 113 cases to at least 226, with 77 people still missing.
Typhoon Yagi’s Impact on Southeast Asia
Typhoon Yagi hit many countries in Southeast Asia, covering northern Vietnam, Lao PDR, Myanmar, and Thailand more than a week ago. As a result, the death toll from floods and landslides in ASEAN has risen to more than 500.

Myanmar state television reported that nearly 260,000 hectares, or more than 1.6 million, of rice fields and agricultural crops had been damaged by the floods.
Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has revealed that floods in Myanmar are affecting around 631,000 people and are in urgent need of food, drinking water, shelter, and clothing. The Global New Light of Myanmar newspaper reported that about 150,000 homes were flooded. The military government has established more than 400 relief centers.
International Response
After the authoritarian government appealed for international help, India has responded to the request so far. They sent 10 tonnes of essential items, including dry food, clothes, and medicine.
