Mya’s Decision: Why She Chose Not to Marry or Have Children
Mýa embracing Her Own Path
Singer Mýa Harrison has openly discussed prioritizing creative and personal fulfillment over adhering to customary societal expectations, specifically regarding marriage and motherhood. In a recent interview, she explained she consciously chose to ”strip a lot of things that are expected of me on a specific timeline for society… I’m talking about marriage. I’m talking about kids.”
Mýa acknowledged that societal norms often lead to assumptions about women who deviate from these timelines, but she stated her decision stems from personal desire. “But did I desire it? No, not with what I’ve witnessed,” she said, implying observations of others’ experiences influenced her choice.
Despite not actively seeking these milestones, Mýa remains open to the possibility of marriage and children in the future. “Not to say it’s not possible, and I’m not open to it,” she clarified. “I’m open to all things, but right now, I’m on a specific assignment. That’s all.” She described her current focus as a dedicated pursuit of her current goals.
Reflecting on the potential for motherhood, Mýa pondered whether she would experience the same instinctive connection with a child as she does with animals. “What is that feeling that I get with puppies? Is that going to happen with babies for me?” she asked. However, she emphasized that she already has fulfilling familial connections, stating, ”But I have godchildren, I have nieces, I have nephews… lots of children in my life.”
