One engine was recently installed in March 2025, while the other was serviced in 2023 and not due for maintenance until December 2025, Chandrasekaran told Times Now.

Kishore Chinta, a former investigator with India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, noted that engine condition isn’t solely determined by age, especially for Genx-1B engines used in the Boeing 787-8. These engines use a full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC) system to monitor health and performance, guiding maintenance decisions.
However, Chinta added that Life Limited Parts (LLPs) within the engine have fixed lifespans, typically between 15,000 and 20,000 cycles, with each engine start and stop counting as one cycle.

Amid the ongoing investigation into the Air India crash, the airline is cutting international operations on wide-body aircraft by 15% until mid-July. The airline cited enhanced safety checks, crew caution, and Middle East tensions as contributing factors.
Air India reported that inspections on 26 of its 33 boeing 787-8 and 787-9 aircraft are complete, with all cleared for service. The remaining planes will be examined soon, and the Boeing 777 fleet will also undergo enhanced safety checks.
