Nacional Monte de Piedad will reopen its doors to the public on October 7, 2026, following a 364-day strike that brought operations to a halt, according to reports. Customers can return to regularize payments, retrieve pledged items, and access newly announced temporary financial reliefs. The institution reached an agreement to reactivate its operations on September 30, 2026, after a “suspension temporary” of the pawn service that had begun on October 1, 2025.
Arguments Over Workplace Grievances and the One-Year Standoff
While management pointed to operational restructuring, the labor union maintained that the conflict stemmed from multiple contract violations.
Union leader Zayún explained that although the initial dispute centered on the assignment of job vacancies, the union subsequently documented disagreements over eight clauses of the collective bargaining agreement. These included economic terms as well as a dispute regarding a continuous workday meal break, during which employees allegedly remained at workstations from 9:00 to 17:00 without designated dining time.
According to Zayún, the former administration of Nacional Monte de Piedad bet on the economic exhaustion of the strikers, expecting workers to eventually accept management conditions as months passed without wages. The union movement survived the nearly year-long stoppage thanks to financial and food contributions from labor organizations such as Teléfonos de México, the Colegio de Bachilers, railroad unions, CROC, and CTC, contrasted with trust-based employees who continued receiving their regular salaries throughout the conflict.
Reopening Reliefs and Appointment Requirements for Customers
The appointment process requires users to input their name and mobile number, select a location and time slot, and obtain a confirmation folio. Visitors must present this non-transferable confirmation folio alongside an official INE identification upon arrival.

To ease the transition following the prolonged closure, the institution introduced several temporary customer benefits:
- Forty-five days without interest charges to regularize pawn agreements.
- Discounts on accrued interest based on individual customer history.
- Zero commissions for 60 days on late performance, contract replacement, custody, and related services.
- Adjusted commercialization dates for active contracts affected by the temporary service suspension.
The branches will operate on a continuous schedule from Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 17:00 hours, and Saturdays from 09:00 to 14:00 hours.
With more than 300 branches across the Republic carrying out 7.2 million pawn loans a year for 1.16 million clients—63% of whom are women—at an average monthly amount of around 4,000 pesos, and a total loan portfolio of approximately 29,000 million pesos, Nacional Monte de Piedad also issued a warning regarding active fraud attempts. The institution urged users to avoid depositing funds into accounts unlisted in official contracts and to disregard messages originating from free email domains such as Gmail, iCloud, or Outlook. Users were advised that some establishments charge additional commissions for storage, valuation, or refrendo, and questions can be directed to duda@montepiedad.com.mx.
