Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, says he does not miss tennis “in the slightest” five months after his official ‌retirement. Nadal, 38, made the comments after receiving the Sporting ⁤Icon‍ honor at the Laureus World Sports Awards in Madrid, Spain.

“The truth ⁤is I don’t miss‍ it. Actually,I miss it zero,” Nadal said. He clarified ‍that his lack of longing stems⁢ from a positive conclusion to his career, not from burnout.”I ‍finished happy with tennis,” he explained.

Nadal announced his retirement plans in October and played ⁣his final match at the Davis Cup on Nov. 19,2024. His illustrious 23-year career included a 1080–228 record, 92 ATP Tour titles, and two ⁤Olympic gold medals. He dominated on clay, securing 63 titles, including a ‌record 14 French‍ Open wins. His tennis⁤ legacy is secure.

Along with Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, who retired in 2022, Nadal formed part‍ of tennis’s “Big Three.” Both‌ Nadal and Federer attributed thier departures to injuries. nadal, even in recent years, remained a formidable competitor, winning the australian and French Open titles in 2022.

While Nadal doesn’t miss playing now, he‍ admitted he would continue if his body allowed him to compete at a high level. He said he gave the decision ⁤considerable thought⁣ and is confident in his choice. His passion for tennis remains undiminished.

“If⁤ it had been possible,I would still be playing⁣ because I loved what I did,” he said. ⁢”I was passionate about it and ‍it’s been like that my whole life. It’s just that when you realize you can’t do it anymore, you try to close that chapter. ⁣And I closed it.”

What’s next

Nadal is expected‍ to remain involved in tennis through his academy and potential future‍ roles, though he has not announced specific ‌plans.
